PEERS, Peer-to-Peer Emotional Education and Relational Support, is a non-profit non-government organization. Our primary goal is to promote the emotional well-being and interpersonal relationships among Chinese by providing psychological education and peer-to-peer support. The organization aims to decrease the social stigmas against mental illness by spreading the knowledge about mental illness and psychological well-being.

We strive to build a platform of volunteers who are interested in practicing active listening and empathy, as well as using psychological sciences to enhance personal well-being and interpersonal connections. PEERS is not a health care provider, thus will not provide any form of mental health consultation.

Activities at PEERS include: interactive online workshops on peer support, active listening, empathy, and common topics surrounding mental health; peer-support process groups; podcasts about mental health and relational support; posts on social media; and online process groups around emotionally challenging collective events.

“Lean on me, when you’re not strong
And I’ll be your friend
I’ll help you carry on
For it won’t be long
‘Til I’m gonna need
Somebody to lean on
You just call on me brother, when you need a hand
We all need somebody to lean on
I just might have a problem that you’ll understand
We all need somebody to lean on
If there is a load you have to bear
That you can’t carry
I’m right up the road
I’ll share your load”
— Lean on me
